MOTHER TONGUE TALKS THE TALK OF INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS

Milton Keynes’s firms translation software proves a hit overseas

A groundbreaking online system to create multi-lingual promotional material is being snapped up in Europe after support from UK Trade & Investment Team South East.

WordFlow, designed by Milton Keynes-based Mother Tongue Communications Limited, enables firms to translate brochures, adverts and websites into different languages quickly and efficiently.

And it has now won new customers in Belgium and Germany and is well placed to win more.

The internet-based software, the brainchild of Mark Dilks, manages the translation process by ensuring translators can place marketing copy directly into artwork - clients and their overseas offices and advertising agencies can immediately check, amend and approve the product online.

Such a process ensures that firms avoid unacceptable delays, unnecessary wastage and added costs by quickly and efficiently producing a consistent brand image and marketing message across the world.

Mark founded Mother Tongue Communications in November 2004 at the Milton Keynes Enterprise Hub, after saving ExxonMobil US$6.6million over three years by centralising the development and production of its marketing activity for lubricant brands in Europe, former Soviet Union and central Asia.

Since joining UK Trade & Investment’s Passport to Export initiative, the firm has won business with a Belgian translation company and German advertising agency. With its own international trades adviser Peter Warren, the firm has successfully created an effective export strategy and developed the necessary skills to carry out the plans. UKTI’s market support services helped identify key markets for expansion.

Managing Director Mark Dilks said:

"Translating material like brochures for distribution overseas sounds like a straightforward process – but it usually isn’t. There are often hold ups which cost companies money as they try to manage the process.

"But WordFlow enables all copy and pictures to sit on the server for instant access by all parties involved – from the translator converting the copy and placing it back in the system to the client approving the final artwork.

"UKTI has been invaluable in developing our export strategy and helping us to identify the key players in our target markets. We are now actively seeking partners and resellers to serve major territories around the world’

International Trade Adviser Peter Warren, who has worked with the firm for the last twelve months said:

"WordFlow is a truly innovative product which can slash its clients overseas marketing and advertising costs. It is an excellent example of how Milton Keynes high-tech industry can win business throughout Europe – and potentially the world.

"Passport to Export is an ideal way for companies to access our extensive range of services- our training courses, market research missions and contacts within government and overseas embassies. Each company that joins is given an export mentor for one year, which greatly aids their work in exporting their products and services. UK Trade & Investment gives firms the skills and confidence to compete in the international marketplace."
